  1. it would be more important to learn how to code in a world with autonomous programming than one where it has to be done by people.

consider how many things you do in your daily life that depend on code– now imagine its everything you do. now imagine that no one understands it, and its all “magic.” its too much like that already.

perhaps its time we started building a society where getting a job was less about competition. we talk about this technology as if its the end of jobs, when the fact is– anyone can have a job. in a competitive job market, which you can certainly make arguments for presently, we may not be able to sustain a livelihood (in 25 years) while competing against robots and ai.

so we arent talking about the end of jobs per se– we are talking about the end of getting a job in a competive job market.

now i ask you this– why on earth would humanity maintain a competitive job market, if all its going to do is put us in situations where humans cant hope to compete? we would have to be absolutely insane to first, create our replacements and then second, try to compete with them.

the solution is either DONT CREATE THE REPLACEMENTS (the luddite solution– fine idea, but i wouldnt rely on it. what are you going to do, ban ai research?) or heres a thought: find an alternative to a competitive job market. realise that the future of mankind cannot compete with its own tools, and gradually build an economy thats based on working for pleasure– so that everyone wants a job and has a job.

but our economy cant be based on competing for jobs anymore. we are losing that economy right now, in slow motion. its that or try to invent jobs that robots just cant do.

      1. me too. a more economically conservative version of that would be the minbari, who (as a culture) will fund someone charged with a quest or a dream. if that were part of american culture, probably any town of mid-to-large size could do that, as it would be capable of recognising citizens with such a thing without the need for a great deal of paperwork.
